I Can’t Look at You

Mom Muriel with husband Arnold

written to my adopted mother Muriel Durost

I cannot look at you, Mother;

without a huge smile on my face.

All the many, precious memories of you;

and your warm, loving embrace.

I can’t think about you, Mother;

without a tear in my eye.

How you accepted as your very own;

this crazy and wandering guy.

I can’t be near you, Mother;

for the miles that keep us apart.

But you must know what a special place;

you hold within my heart.

I can’t begin to tell you, Mother;

of all you mean to me.

Your hugs, your love, your many prayers;

leave me speechless as can be!

I can’t look at you, I can’t think about you,

I can’t be near you, Mother;

You’ve blessed my life in a million ways;

you truly are like none other!

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

    1. She didn’t actually adopt but she’s still my mom in many ways.
