By Faith
With a microscope … we are able to view objects that are infinitesimally small … that could NEVER be seen with the naked eye. The most powerful electron microscopes let us view objects as small as an atom (about one ten-millionth of a millimeter).

With a telescope … the Hubble Space Telescope … we can explore galaxies that are literally billions of light years away … that could NEVER be seen with the naked eye.

With our faith … we can see that which is invisible … that could NEVER be seen … without faith.

Corrie ten Boom said, “Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.“

Hello friend and welcome to 5 Minutes of Hope.

Today’s topic is: By Faith.

Now then, before we go into a long dissertation as to what faith IS … let me tell you what faith is NOT.

Faith is not holding your breath, crossing your fingers, and hoping with all your might that everything works out okay.

Faith IS … a trust and a confidence in the God of the Word and in the Word of God.

Faith is believing that He is who He says He is and that He can and will do what He says He can and will do.

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Hebrews 11:3

♫ If Jesus said it I believe it, His Word cannot lie.

By faith … Noah built the ark. WHAT? It had never yet rained on the earth.

♫ I’m trusting you Lord, I’m trusting you. You’ve been so faithful, You’ve been so true.

By faith … Abraham believed and went. WHERE? He didn’t know where.

♫ But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed onto Him against that day.

By faith … Sarah bore a child. WHO? She was well past child bearing age.

♫ Only Believe. Only believe. All things are possible, only believe.

By faith … Joseph spoke of the exodus. WHEN? Four hundred years before it happened.

♫ Have faith in God. Have faith in God for deliverance, have faith in God.

By faith … Moses didn’t fear Pharaoh. WHY? He persevered because he saw him who is invisible.

♫ Faith is the victory! Oh, glorious victory, that overcomes the world.

These and others who are recorded in the 11th chapter of the book of Hebrews, modeled a faith which SAW and BELIEVED in the invisible.

Dear one, keep in mind, there is a WORLD of difference between seeing something that is not there and seeing the invisible.

WHERE do we get this FAITH that SEES?

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Romans 10:17

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Hebrews 12:2

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

I Timothy 1:17

Mighty God, we thank you for the examples in your Word of men and women of faith. Help us to read Your Word and help us to believe Your Word. In the matchless name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we pray. Amen

A Privilege Called Prayer
A Privilege called Prayer

… conversing with the Creator …

… talking with the Teacher …

… supping with the Shepherd …

… through a privilege called prayer …

Prayer — is most certainly not rattling off our wish list while lounging on the lap of some fat stranger wearing a fake costume, sporting a fake beard and spouting a fake laugh.

Oh, no, Ho, Ho, my friend!

Prayer — is having a chat with the Christ of Calvary and the King of Kings.

Prayer — is sacred communion with a holy, loving and living God.

Prayer — is loving on Jesus. Singing to Him with songs and hymns and spiritual songs. Making melody in our hearts to the Lord.

Prayer — is the most awesome privilege afforded to humans.

Primates play. People pray.

Hey, hey; whaddya say?

Lose the Weight
Hey, Doug Dial here with 1 minute of hope.

At last count, there were countless diet and weight loss programs on the market. We are inundated with slogans like, “Give us a week and we’ll take off the weight.” Or, “What are you ‘weighting’ for?”

The most successful and the oldest weight loss program precedes time. That’s right, Jesus was slain before the foundation of the world. The cross SCREAMS forgiveness!

Do you want to LOSE the weight?

Friend, God is all about forgiveness. And … because Jesus forgave OUR trespasses on the cross … we can and MUST forgive those who have wronged us.

Oh, the WEIGHT of unforgiveness! Bitterness, anger, and untold damage to the one who holds onto it.

Forgive! Let it go!

Carry it … just once more … to the Master’s feet and lay … it … down.

The God of the Word
Hey, Doug Dial here with 1 minute of hope.

The Word of God reveals the God of the Word.

Oh, to be sure, it speaks on a plethora of topics.

The histories of various people groups.

Wars and victories, life and death.

It instructs us how to walk, talk and how to relate to others.

But the CRUX of the holy Scriptures is God revealed THROUGH his Son Jesus Christ and BY His Holy Spirit.

Dear one, in this unprecedented and crucial … CHAOTIC time in our nation’s … AH, in our WORLD’S history … we absolutely MUST get that Book OFF the shelf and …

♫ Shut in, with God, in a secret place

♫ There, in the Spirit, beholding His face

♫ Gaining new power, to run in life’s race

♫ I long, to be shut in with God.

Friend, take time, MAKE TIME to get acquainted and reacquainted with the God of the Word.

The Comfort of the Scriptures
A bagel, a coffee, and a newspaper. THAT was the morning routine for several years. Most certainly NOT the Breakfast of Champions!

The bagel.

Smothered in cream cheese or butter was BOUND to add a few pounds to the body. And it did.

The coffee.

The verdict is still out on THIS beverage. Fifty percent of the experts say coffee is NOT good for you.

The other half say coffee IS good for you. The rest of the experts struggle with math.

The newspaper.

The more you thumbed through it the more the ink came off the pages and smudged up your hands. Be careful what you read. It WILL rub off on you.

Hello friend and welcome to 5 Minutes of Hope

Today’s topic is: The Comfort of the Scriptures

Every shelf in every library in the world may be filled with books but not every book on every shelf is filled with hope and comfort. If you’re reading of the atrocities of Nazi Germany or the horrors of war throughout human history, you won’t hear a lot about comfort and hope.

However, there IS a book … wherein … you and I can find comfort and calm in the chaos and the crisis.

God’s Word IS jam packed with comfort and hope:

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

Romans 15:4

In all of my affliction I find great comfort in your promises, for they have kept me alive!

Psalm 119:50

WHERE is the comfort in that Book, Doug? I’m so glad you asked that!

1. God is in control.

For dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.

Psalm 22:28

♫ In the eye of the storm, You remain in control

And in the middle of the war, You guard my soul

You alone are the anchor, when my sails are torn

Your love surrounds me in the eye of the storm.

Take comfort friend, GOD is in control.

2. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter.

When the disciples were all teary-eyed at Christ’s declaration of being taken from them, He promised them a comforter.

I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.

John 14:18

Jesus HIMSELF indwells, takes up abode, LIVES in the heart and soul of the believer by His Holy Spirit.

♫ Holy Spirit, what a comfort you are!

Holy Spirit, what a comfort you are!

Your lead us, you guide us, you live right inside us.

Holy Spirit, what a comfort you are!

Take comfort, The Comforter lives within.

3. Jesus Christ is coming again.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

I Thessalonians 4:16-18

♫ He’s coming soon. He’s coming soon. With joy, we’ll welcome His returning. It may be morn, it may be night or noon. We know, He’s coming soon.

Take comfort, dear one, He’s coming soon.

Mighty God, thank you for the Scriptures. May we find comfort in your Word today. In the matchless Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we pray. Amen

The Name
Hey, Doug Dial here with one minute of hope.

Certain words can strike fear in our hearts. You doubt me?

Spider. Ha, some of your flinched.

Snake. Many of you shuddered.

But those are just words, no?

Here’s a word that will strike the fear that strikes our heart:

♫ Jesus, oh how sweet the name.

Jesus, every day the same.

Jesus, let all saints proclaim,

His worthy name, forever!

When David ran toward the giant, he knew he couldn’t win in his own strength Oh no, he shouted, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty.” I Samuel 17:45

You want calm? You want safety?

♫ In the name of Jesus, we have the victory.

The Way Maker
Hey, Doug Dial here with one minute of hope.

Sometimes … we find ourselves in a quagmire and we just can’t seem to find our way.

Unemployment.

A relationship issue.

Physical challenges.

The way is unclear, and the challenge seems daunting as to how to find our way.

THAT reminds me of an old chorus:

♫ God will make a way where there seems to be no way.

He works in ways we cannot see, He is watching over me.

He will be my guide, lead me gently by His side.

With love and strength for each new day, God will make a way.

Dear one, your situation is NOT too difficult for God.

Pray. Trust. Believe. Call upon the Lord.

God will make a way for He is the Way Maker.

Thy Will Be Done
Hey, Doug Dial here with one minute of hope.

The passenger in the seat next to mine turned to me and with fear filled eyes inquired, “What if this plane crashes?”

“What if it doesn’t?” I replied.

We so easily worry and fret about what MIGHT happen.

Friend, is there ANYBODY out there today that STILL prays, “Father, Thy will be done.”

Let’s throw up our hands to the Lord with reckless abandon and let Him be God.

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

In the midst of this worldwide pandemic God is doing AMAZING things. Everything that comes against the child of God to try to ruin us … God turns around for His honor and His glory.

Dear one, may our heart cry be:

THY … WILL … BE … DONE!

Whispers of What
These days are filled with constant conversations in my head. I talk to God. I think some people just “talk” in their own heads. Not me. I talk to God as if He were right here in front of me. This is what I am whispering to God.

“God, You know.”

“You know how incompetent I am.“

“I made a small mistake. It is nothing. Why is it, God (lest I forget who I am talking with), that I work so hard to help and cover everyone’s back, yet no one has mine?”

“Wait, I know who has my back, it is You. Jesus, all my mistakes are forgiven, right? You promised that right? Please God, wash me today in Your River. Wash me clean.”

“But I need. I am the most needy person. Oh God, I am so glad you don’t judge me too needy by the world’s standards. You can have all my neediness.”

This is how I constantly discuss my life with God. Each day I find something more I am not capable of dealing with. Sometimes the whisper is — “Hey God, You got this one right? I can’t hold on anymore. You take it.”

How is your relationship with your creator? The future looks so promising. If only this-then that-then the next, and I will be ok. Yet God says. “Come unto Me all who are weary.” Matthew 11:28

I am waiting. Waiting on answered prayer. Waiting on guidance. Once a need is answered there is another right behind it. I trust in the promise – “when I trust in You, God, with all my heart, and I lean on Your understanding not mine. When all my ways are following Your Guidance, then You show me the way to go.” (Proverbs 3:5,6) (my phrasing only)

Holding on and Letting go
Having been raised in a fairly QUIET and a fairly FORMAL Baptist church in my growing up years, when I first stepped foot inside a Pentecostal church, it was … interesting. Generally speaking, you can sense EXCITEMENT in the air. Exuberance and expectation EXUDE from the congregants. More times than not you’ll find them on their feet, worshiping, waving, and loving on God. After worship, and after the preacher has proclaimed Christ CRUCIFIED, RISEN, and COMING AGAIN, it is a common practice to have an altar call. WHAT is an altar call, you might ask?

Hello friend and welcome to 5 Minutes of Hope.

Today’s topic is: Holding on and Letting Go.

The altar call at a Pentecostal church is where … people meet God. If it’s your FIRST encounter, it’s what’s known as, “coming to Christ”, or “getting saved”, or “being born again”. If you’re already “saved” you are going to the altar for a “touch from God” a “closer walk”, a “deeper experience”. Now then, it can get awfully LOUD at a Pentecostal altar when several folks are calling upon God at the same time. It is not at all unusual to hear someone praying on one side of you, “HOLD ON” while the person on the other side is encouraging you to “LET GO”.

Holding on and letting go.

Listen to this encouragement from the Word of God: “Let us seize and HOLD TIGHTLY the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful to his word”.

Hebrews 10:23

And, just a few words later: “As for us, we have all these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So we must LET GO of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination for the path has been already marked out before us”.

Hebrews 12:1

Hold on and let go.

Hold on … to God’s promises.

Let go … of the devil’s lies.

Hold on … to the ♫ faith of our father’s living still.

Let go … of doubt and worry.

Hold on … to God’s unchanging hand.

Let go … of being led down the path of deceit.

Hold on … to God’s forgiveness.

Let go … of ALL unforgiveness.

Like the steer wrestler at the country rodeo … HOLD ON … for dear life to all that is good and right and godly and … HOLD ON … tight because it’s gonna be a bumpy ride. With the other hand … LET GO! Throw it up in the air in an act of worship and surrender to God and His will.

Dear one, let’s find balance and victory in the HOLDING ON and the LETTING GO.

Mighty God, we thank You for Your Word which teaches us the need to HOLD ON to You and LET GO of our entire lives, placing them into Your loving and faithful hands. In the matchless name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we pray. Amen
